William Muriel(WM)Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization(NGO) has initiated moves to improve the survival of patients, especially children with Sickle Cell Disease(SCD) in remote areas.
The Founder of the WM Foundation, Mr. William Quaye is worried about the number of people, especially children with Sickle Cell Disease(SCD) who die in the country and called for collective efforts to help him fight the Disease.
“My fight to combat sickle cell disease is a collective effort and it’s a big fight so I call on the other donors to come on board to help me save more lives”. He appealed.
At the donation of an Electrophoresis Machine and centrifuge equipment to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital to enhance the screening of newborns with the sickle cell diseases, he said “a lot of children with SCD die without beinf diagnosed and never treated for the disease so with early diagnosis, children with sickle cell disease can be given affordable interventions”
“WM foundation’s main mission is to try and reach the most underprivileged kids around the country to help fight sickle cell disease and other human mythological disorders,”Mr. Quaye added.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Institution, the Medical Director of the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, Dr. Stephen Laryea thanked the organization for the kind gesture and explained “The donation comes at a perfect time”.
According to him, the equipment being the latest of its kind will facilitate their work and help the institution to diagnose the condition of SCD faster.
